At People’s Postcode Lottery, community is at the heart of what we do. People play together, win together and by playing, support charities locally, nationally, and internationally. The difference player support can make to a project or to a charity is of fundamental importance when considering the impact a funding award can make. I work across Postcode Green Trust, Postcode Earth Trust and Postcode Planet Trust, which are all funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

In this short blog post, I’ll outline how supporting Forum’s efforts to scale PowerPaired meets the criteria and requirements we look for when awarding funding raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

As an organisation, we believe the world is better off with strong social organisations – there can be no change without them. So, in delivering our vision we look for organisations making an impact and seek beneficiaries whose strategies and outcomes are focused, measurable and verifiable.

We look for passionate and professional organisations that demonstrate leadership and collaboration; organisations that find structural solutions and inspire creative approaches to systems change. We are confident in Forum for the Future in helping to deliver this change.

PowerPaired, which our players are supporting, is an exciting project to scale up community-owned renewable energy projects throughout the country. It was created to tackle one of the biggest obstacles to getting community energy off the ground – which is, for community energy groups, finding a willing site owner – and for asset owners, finding a group to work with when they don’t have the time or expertise themselves to get projects off the ground.

PowerPaired is a win-win solution, providing a matchmaking service between community energy groups and asset owners. The PowerPaired site is set to create transformative change in increasing the number of community-owned energy projects in a low-cost way whilst empowering local groups to take practical action on climate change and giving neighbourhoods control over where their energy comes from. Following a successful 2019, we look forward to further supporting this important initiative in 2020.

As a national organisation with a local footprint, People’s Postcode Lottery looks for charities and projects that share our values and can make a real difference to people and to the planet. Projects that counteract climate change and promote renewable energy are highly relevant for us and PowerPaired has great potential in accelerating our journey to a renewable energy future.

We need a paradigm shift in the way that we develop energy projects and living in a time of climate crisis we need PowerPaired, now more than ever.
